Surfing

« 1 of 2 »

Costa Rica has been a surf mecca for decades now, thanks largely to Robert August who popularized the area in his movie Endless Summer II, and by making it his second home. Here is the Costa Rica section of Endless Summer II in two parts: Tamarindo is a surf town through and through, and many people- even surfers- prefer the quieter atmosphere of the Flamingo area.

Surf Lessons

There are a number of surf schools in Tamarindo- and we can certainly get you all set up at one of those- but most people who are staying in the Flamingo area prefer to get lessons from one of our local instructors. We have a couple little schools here that provide the boards, transportation, and expert instruction, making it a hassle free way to see if surfing is for you, or improve your skills. These same instructors also act as guides for experienced surfers who need transportation or who just realize that it takes years to really get an area wired, and a good guide can help them make the most of their valuable time.

Surf Trips

By boat can be a more (or the only) practical way of getting to some of the most epic spots in the area, including Ollie’s Point and Witches Rock, arguably Costa Rica’s most famous break. There are a number of options for people who are interested, including local boats for charter. The Flamingo Area as a Jumping- Off Point The beaches in the immediate area are not great for surfing, but with transportation it can be a great alternative to staying on a surf beach. While Tamarindo may have too much going on, other beaches like Grande, Avallanas, and Negra, sometimes don’t have enough… all these places are great to visit, but, you know.

The Flamingo area has a laid- back atmosphere, but plenty of other things to do and places to hang out. We can take care of any part of your dream surf trip- lodging, transportation, etc.- or we can handle the whole thing and all you have to do is show up.
