People come from all over the world to dive Costa Rica- specifically the Islas Catalinas off the coast of Flamingo and Playa Potrero. At Tourist Information Flamingo we consider diving Costa Rica one of our main areas of expertise.
More importantly for you, Randall knows the local diving companies just as well. Some can be highly recommended… The diving here is world class and challenging. This is the Pacific ocean where strong currents, dramatic thermocline, and variable visibility are the norm. These challenges are enthusiastically undertaken for one reason: the undersea life here is some of the most abundant and diverse in the world. Vast schools of jacks and milkfish, tiny blennies and nudibranchs, hundreds of frenzied, brightly colored reef fish, lazy white tipped reef sharks, huge green moreys, graceful spotted eagle rays- and that’s just the first ten minutes. Lucky divers regularly see turtles and giant mantas.
Very lucky divers even experience the behemoth that is the gentle whale shark. All these pictures were taken right here in the Catalinas
Certified divers can dive 2 tanks in the Catalinas. Trips include all equipment, expert guides, snacks and refreshments, and, if you’re lucky, dolphins racing with the boat. Trips are usually in the morning (7:30) when the seas are calmer and visibility is better, but can be arranged for the afternoon. A photographer/ videographer may be available to record your dives. Please inquire if you’re interested. Contact us for current prices.
Did you know you can dive without full certification? It’s called a “resort course” and involves only a half day of instruction in the pool. Then, when you do your dive, your scuba instructor stays by your side the whole time, making sure you’re safe. It’s a great way to figure out if diving is for you. (Warning: resort courses regularly turn normal people into obsessed scuba junkies!)
Scuba certification is a great thing to build a vacation around, and it’s a skill that will forever enhance future travels. Open Water certification requires two or three days in the classroom and pool and four open water dives, usually two per day. With a week you can get certified and still have plenty of time for other activities. Local companies use the internationally recognized PADI system.
Improve your skills with Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, First Aid, and more. Packages: We can put together a dream vacation for any diver or would- be diver, with all kinds of other fun stuff in between dives. Check out these sample itineraries.
